Brain Health Benefits of Drinking Wine
Drinking wine, whether red or white, can benefit both your brain and overall health, according to Professor Gordon Shepherd at Yale School of Medicine. Through his research, Shepherd has discovered that wine tasting can activate the emotional and sensory regions of the brain, and that to fully experience a wine's flavor, it should not be spat out. In his book, "Neuroenology: How the Brain Creates the Taste of Wine," Shepherd describes the concept of "neurogastronomy," which explores how the brain perceives flavor. He suggests that flavor is not inherent in wine molecules, but rather created by the brain of the wine taster, and compares it to how the brain interprets colors.
According to Shepherd’s research, drinking wine stimulates the brain more than solving a math problem or listening to music. Additionally, factors such as gender, race, age, saliva, and emotions can all affect how a person perceives the flavor of wine. So, if you want to improve your brain function and overall well-being, consider adding a glass or two of wine to your weekly routine.
